Teddy Bears Picnic

At Cedars, we are big fans of all things teddy bear related, and so unsurprisingly we are all for the celebration of Teddy Bears Picnic Day! This day falls on July 10th each year and it was created to encourage those who are passionate about teddy bears to have fun with the family in a wholesome and creative way. The day's name originates from the song 'The Teddy Bears' Picnic' which was sung originally by Jimmy Kennedy in 1930, with the music dating all the way back to John W. Bratton in 1907.

Having teddy bear picnics is a great way to cultivate kids' imaginations, and so this day is there for you to do this in the most fun way possible! The sun will (hopefully!) be out, and so it will be a lovely opportunity to get out there in the garden or in the park with your children, and bring a collection of cuddly characters with you!

What if it is not so sunny?

Fear not! The teddy bears picnic is not an activity which is solely bound to the great outdoors. It can also be had inside and with just as much fun. We would recommend setting up a pillow tent in the centre of your living room, or perhaps your children's room, and then inviting as many teddy bears as you think you have food and tea for!

Make sure the teddies are looking good

In terms of preparation, one thing that you might want to do is make sure all the favourite teddy bears are looking their best. This might include giving them little bows or even other accessories such as hats. On top of that, you will want to make sure that their hair is combed so it is looking all nice and neat for the big day!

Prepare some snacks

Although the teddy bears themselves may not generally be big eaters, you will want to be sure to prepare some yummy snacks for the rest of the family who will be joining in. Peanut butter or jam sandwiches for example would go down a treat, as well as maybe some cookies and some fresh summer berries!

You could even have a Winnie the Pooh themed teddy bears picnic complete with Winne the Pooh picnic snacks. Take a look at the video below from Eats Amazing food blogger Grace Hall for some inspiration.

Music and games

Picnic time with the kids is a lot more exciting and engaging with a few activities up your sleeve. You might want to put on the original song which the Teddy Bears' Picnic Day is inspired by. Nothing beats a good singalong with the children, and this will be the perfect song to sing along to on the day.

In terms of games, you also might want to think about other ways of having your children lead the way with creativity; you might want for example to help your children come up with stories about their favourite teddy bears, as well as bringing some drawing materials outside so that they can draw their cuddly buddies in fun and exciting scenarios.

We have the teddies for the perfect picnic

You will be pleased to see that, within our collection, we have some lovely teddy bears which come from the world of children's fiction such as a range of Paddington Bear, Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit teddy bears. One of these could be a great option because you could then also bring out some of the accompanying books and have some story time after the day of picnic feasting! This will be an action packed day, so make sure you and your children tuck the teddy bears up so they are nice and comfy for a good night's rest.
