Iconic character
Winnie the Pooh has been an iconic character, one who exists deep within the consciousness of the British public, since 1926 when A. A. Milne's book 'Winnie-the-Pooh' was published. The four volumes of Pooh stories were illustrated by the illustrator E. H. Shephard, also known for his work in 'The Wind in the Willows'. The books were in part inspired by the beautiful location of Ashdown Forest, which is near to the house Milne moved to when he left London for the countryside of East Sussex. From 1966 onwards, the Disney era then gave Winnie the Pooh an even wider audience, with families watching Pooh and his friends on the big screen.
