Merrythought Teddy Bear Collection
Merrythought have been honing the teddy bear making craft since 1930. They started out as the brain child of Yorkshire mill owner William Gordon Holmes. Seeing that there might be an opportunity to make a product that had a real impact, he set out to bring together a team of skilled craftspeople and housed his new project in a beautiful brick foundry building in Ironbridge, Shropshire. It is a marker of how much Merrythought take pride in their great heritage that, almost 100 years later, their home is still the very same building in Ironbridge.
Children's teddy bears
It is not just an illustrious history that makes a great teddy bear crafting company, though. It is also all about the level of creativity and character that they put into their teddy bears today. This much can be seen in abundance in the Merrythought range. We particularly love that they are able to make a highly detailed, classically crafted bear which is also safe for children from 36 months and up. That means these beautiful creations can be best buds with the little one, and will continue to be there by their side as they grow up, such is the long lasting quality of these impressive mohair teddy bears.
Antique merrythought bears
These teddy bears are in the true authentic style, so you couldn't really find a more special and elegant pick for a first bear. They combine the classic appearance and the timeless level of quality with a soft cuddliness that would make them beautifully comforting and reassuring for little ones. With that said, they are also a treat for the collector. We even have some highly sought after limited edition Merrythought teddy bears. These are difficult to get your hands on, so they would certainly have pride of place among many a collection.
An enchanting world of animals
As well as the traditional teddy bears, you will also find a whole host of other animal characters such as bunnies, mice, monkeys, pandas and cats. These are still made using the traditional techniques and so they also bring with them an enchanting and timeless feeling of magic, the like of which you would get reading through many a perfectly crafted children's story book. The old ways are sometimes the best, and Merrythought proves that you can keep things authentic and still be just as important today as you were almost a century ago.
